Biography and Coaching Philosophy
Athlete Sports Performance is owned and operated by Matt Shiel. With a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Coaching – Sport Science and a Master's degree in Education (Coaching) I have combined knowledge of athletic performance and a teaching philosophy. This facilitates an environment to develop athletic ability, technique and confidence to allow the athlete to achieve their maximum physical and mental potential.
As a coach you must educate the athlete in order for the training program to be successful. Athletes need to understand what they are doing and why they are doing it.
I have extensive background in a high performance sports environment on the field, track and weightroom. During my time playing and coaching I have learnt from many world renowned coaches in Australia and the USA. Many of these strength and conditioning coaches are currently at College Football, Basketball and NFL teams. Additionally I traveled to the best sports performance facilities in the country talking and training to many strength and speed coaches which further increased my knowledge of performance for athletes. I am deeply passionate and I continue to self educate myself on athletic performance, coaching, strength and conditioning.
I have a strong academic and practical understanding of key sport science principles, strength, power, speed, conditioning, recovery methods and physiology which incorporates both research based and practical training methods into my coaching. Throughout my time as an athlete, I was fortunate enough to engage in the practical experience of training, preparing and playing sport. This is of high importance as you have a first hand insight into the physical preparation and energy system requirement needed to succeed. A practical experience helps me to physically prepare athletes of many sports.
I strive to get results for all my athletes. From my experience results come with proven methods, consistency and hard work. Training is not easy, but when goals are achieved it is worth it.
